About Us
Australian Association of Retired Airline Pilots and Aviation Professionals
Our Mission
The Australian Association of Retired Airline Pilots, (AARAP), is part of a national organization. The founding National members were Don Moodie and Arthur Lovell. It was then an active group of pilots retired from airline service. It is now a collective association of retired airline pilots, flight engineers and other aviation professionals.
The inaugural meeting of the Queensland branch was held on 6th October 1977 in the offices of the Australian Federation of Air Pilots, (AFAP), Gregory Terrace, Brisbane. At that time it was known as the Association of Retired Australian Airline Pilots and was an affiliate of the AFAP.
Charlie Gray was the first QLD chairman and Bob Barrett the first secretary. The total financial membership was eleven. A name change to AARAP was initially discussed at a branch meeting in March 1978 but it was not officially changed until the revised constitution of 1997.
Membership is open to retired airline pilots and aviation professionals. Eligibility for membership now more broadly includes former domestic and international airline employees as well as retired aviation professionals.
Further information along with the purpose of the association can be found in the constitution section of this website.
